I've been staying annually on Lake Opinicon for the past 55 years, except for 2 Pandemic years when the Canadian border was closed. This cottage has a lot of history with the owner’s family having handed it down through generations. The cabin is in good working order and now has a new wooden floor that was recently added. The owner’s provide two Kayaks and paddles which are a nice added benefit my family used every day. There is a fire pit dockside with Adirondack chairs and wood can be easily purchased nearby. The gas grill on the patio looks new and we used it several times. The fishing on this lake for bass, pike, bluegills and perch is very good. The boat docking area is aging as well as the fish cleaning station, but overall we enjoyed everything about the cottage and it’s location.
A well equipped rustic cottage comfortable for smaller groups. It has a large landscape overlooking a quiet bay that slopes to the water and dock. The trees offer great shade from the midday sun. Swimming off the dock isn’t great, but the area off the point has a decent entry. Be sure to wear water shoes as it is rocky. We caught largemouth, smallmouth, pike and rock bass off the shoreline. A flock of 30 geese visited the property as well as a doe and her fawn, an owl, a muskrat, a groundhog and a racoon. There is a nature reserve that is a 20 minute walk away and Davis Lock is a nice 30 minute walk. If you bike the roads are excellent. We also saw a fox on our walks . Highly recommend this property.
Thanks for being great renters and for the thoughtful description and tips for future renters! I hope you come back soon!
An old cottage maintained very well. Comfortable furniture. Great Wi-Fi. The grounds are a treat to see. There are many stone features created at lease fifty years ago and they are plum. Robin responds quickly. The stove stopped working and was fixed. We went to kayak. The put-in is good, gently sloping bottom covered in stones. An agile friend dropped by and could get in and out without his feet getting wet. Opinicon is beautiful from a boat. Islands with interesting bays. Deer, otter, eagle, swans, osprey, porcupine and turtles.
