We booked this cottage last minute due to our regular cottage rental having a storm related damage issue. It is extremely comfortable and has multiple rooms to accommodate larger groups. The muskoka room offers a breathtaking view of the lake and surrounding property with it's wildlife visitors. The outside patio is shaded very well and has a comfortable patio table and chair set. The land is large and can accommodate multiple activities at the same time. The lower patio near the lake is quite large and has a very nice fire pit. The dock is quite functional. Entry into the water is quite easy and the swimming is great. We were able to catch bass and perch off the dock. The cottage offers a canoe and kayaks, but we did not partake in those activities. The cottage also comes with a variety of life jackets and water shoes, a nice gesture from the owners. Westport with all it's amenities is only a few minutes drive away. A walk to Scheuermann Vineyard and Winery is well worth it. It is pricey, but both the wine and pizza were fantastic. I would recommend this cottage for larger groups and families. As a couple we found it beyond our capacity, but it was extremely comfortable and offered many conveniences some smaller, more rustic cottages may not.
Thanks John for being so understanding and flexible when we had storm damage! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I hope to host you again next year!
This has been our family vacation oasis three years in a row. The house is spacious, full of natural light, and clean. All the amenities and activities that you need. The kids loved the badminton set and boats. Sink upgrades in both bathrooms were a nice touch this year. The winery and surrounding area have something for everyone. Book now - you won’t regret it.
Firstly the positives Beautiful view of Sand lake. Walking distance to Westport and the winery. Large master bedroom with a pretty view. Main floor has a large room with big windows for relaxing. The cons No air conditioning on main level, so very hot during the day. Bathrooms are functional however old and need some upgrades. Balcony upstairs off bedroom needs some repairs.
We had a wonderful time with our family at Cedars. We enjoyed the the lake despite the weedy bottom. The kids ended up going to the sandy beach just 2 minutes drive away. It was extremely hot for 2 of the weeks and the master bedroom on the main floor got too hot to sleep. We had to double up and sleep upstairs where there was AC.The cottage is spacious, well appointed and meets our needs. We look forward to returning next August.
Enjoyed the cottage particularly the porch area for dining, reading and entertaining friends. Nice layout and perfect patio setup down by the lake with firepit. Loved the pizza at the local winery a short distance away
Thanks John, I hope you return soon!
We love this cottage. The location is perfect - a short distance to town, hiking trails, and a winery! The grounds are perfect for outdoor games and the lake is warmer than you'd think! Water shoes are a must. Fishing off the dock yields excellent results - the kids loved it. We also took advantage of the canoe, kayaks, fire pit, and BBQ. Inside the cottage is spacious and comfortable. The sun room is the highlight. Kitchen has everything you need, bedrooms are spacious are comfortable, bathrooms are clean, and lots of seating options inside and out for dining. A lovely spot for a summer getaway.
My wife, daughter and parents stayed a week here and were amazed by the amount of space, the amount of wildlife and the peace and quiet. The rooms are spacious enough, however there is plenty of room for visitors should they stay over as almost every couch folds out. The lakefront is scenic and quiet, save for the great blue heron that enjoys the dock and the kingfisher that does a fly by every night. The water is shallow and warm with a sandy/weedy bottom. Canoeing around the lake was always peaceful and serene. In the evening deer would run across the property and provide a good show before dinner. The sunroom looking out over the lake is fantastic. It provided a great view of the comet Neowise. We had no problems with anything at this cottage. It was very clean and the bathrooms and showers worked without issue. The upper bedrooms were spacious and the a/c was more than enough to keep us cool at night. The bbq worked very well and the amount of water sports related activities available ensured we were never bored. For wine lovers, it is about a three minute drive to Scheuermann Winery and great wood fired pizza and libations. For hikers it is a five minute drive to Foley Mountain conservation area and the incredible views over the city. I highly recommend staying here, just not when we want to come back next year... and the year after... and the year after that... :)
The cottage was very clean when we arrived, and is very spacious. There were lots of sleeping options for the four of us, and we all found the beds to be comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked with just about everything you'd need, including a water cooler and a large fridge/freezer. Although there are several rooms, I must admit we spent most of our time either outside on the very sizeable grounds or in the lovely, bright and modern sun room, which affords a delightful view of the lake and catches a nice breeze in the evening. The upstairs bedrooms have a/c but the main bedroom on the ground floor was cool enough, even with a heat warning in place, to sleep comfortably simply with the aid of a ceiling fan. There is a canoe but we wished we'd brought some other outdoor games with us, such as badminton, bocce ball, horseshoes, etc. to help us take advantage of the grounds. The lake is quite shallow and so has a lot of weeds in it apparently from June to September - a flotation device would be ideal if that's a bit of a turn off. Water shoes are recommended because of the zebra mussel shells and other tree debris. It's a wonderful place to admire the Ontario wildlife. We had lots of fun seeing a deer that ran backwards and forwards across the lawn, admiring the busy chipmunks and groundhogs, spotting critters on the lake and, of course, trying to identify the numerous different types of birds that were in the area (we noticed turkey vultures, hawks, ospreys, gulls, goldfinches, chicadees, and blue herons). There's a fire-pit just beside the lake, an ideal place to watch the sunset while toasting marshmallows or mastering the art of s'mores. The cottage is ideally situated just on the outskirts of Westport, a lovely little town with enough shops and restaurants to make for an interesting visit (including LCBO, the Beer Store, grocery store, ice cream shop, brewery and lots of craft/clothing stores). It's also a good starting point for some nice country drives. Although Westport has several restaurants, due to the COVID-19 restrictions in place at the time of our stay, we limited our visit to the neighbouring Scheuermann winery outdoor tables, where the food or the wine did not disappoint. All in all, I'd highly recommend this cottage for a family stay.
Hi Elaine, So glad that you enjoyed your time at Cedars! It's too bad that you didn't see (or maybe thought that it was't for you), the flotation devices for both for adults and children including an electric air pump and a ‘portable badminton set’ that were purchased in early July 2020 and were placed in the cottage for renters use. I will add something to the cottage notes as to the location and will list these items. We hope you return soon! Thanks!
